Once found, these words need to be used to craft articles that appeals to both users and search engines. We have therefore invited Albin Sandberg, a Digital Marketing Consultant at the Swedish agency Adsight, to explain how you can craft articles that will take you to the top of Google.

How to Write SEO Friendly Blogposts

Writing blogposts/articles that appeals to both users and search engines are essential to be successful in the field of SEO today. By applying the following tips and tricks you too can master this skill and find yourself climbing the search engine ladder:

Step #1 – Find a Keyword to Focus On

Before you can put your fingers to the keyboard and start crafting an appealing article, you will have to find a keyword to focus on. Since there are a lot of great articles published on this topic already, I will not bother to go into details on how you do this. Instead, I will recommend you start by reading one of the following articles and then come back to this one:

Step #2 – Do Some Research to Understand User Intent

Jumping the gun by starting to write an article immediately after you’ve found a keyword is never a good idea. First, you need to do some research in order to find out the user intent behind it. In other words, what do people want to know when they are searching for this specific keyword?

To do this, simply head over to Google and perform a search for the keyword that you found in the first step. Since Google’s number one priority is to “presents the most relevant results to the searchers queries”, you will easily be able to identify what type of content users want to see by taking a look at the first results.

Step #3 – Start Planning Your Article (With User Intent in Mind)

Once you understand what type of content users are looking for when performing this specific search, it is time to start planning your article with this knowledge in mind. In other words, you should start structuring the different parts of your post:

  1. Title
  2. Introduction
  3. Main Part
  4. Conclusion

For example, the planning of this article looked like this:

Step #4 – Craft an Appealing Title

The title is the most important part of your article. It is namely the first thing that will be presented for people when they’re browsing search engines. If don’t have an appealing title that people would want to click on, you’re doomed. You won’t get any traffic.

An appealing title should:

Step #5 – Make Users Stick Around with a Thrilling Introduction

If your title is appealing enough, people would want to click on it. Which, in turn, doesn’t mean that they will stick around and read your entire article. Instead, you will need to make them want to stick around till the bitter end.

And how do I do that, you’re probably wondering? By crafting a thrilling introduction, of course!

Like an appealing title, your introduction should accurately describe the content that will be covered in the article. It should also be interesting and in line with user intent. Give the users a reason to stick around and read your entire article.

Step #6 – Divide Your Content with Headings

Let’s say that you’ve crafted an appealing title and introduction that made people want to continue reading your article. If they’re then met by a huge chunk of text that’s not easy to read, they will leave!

For example, I’ve divided this article by the following (including the right format):

If your content is organized in a structural way and divided with headings, it will be much easier for users to read and scan. Which in turn increase the chances that they will stick around till the end. Like a cherry on the cake, structure and headings like this also helps search engine spiders to crawl, index and rank your article.

Step #7 – Sum it up with a Conclusion

Last but not least, you should summarize your article with a conclusion. A great tip is to leave the users with some key takeaways from the post, as well as some eventual actions that you would like them to take afterwards. Need an example? Check out my conclusion for this article below.

Conclusion

There you have it – the anatomy of SEO-friendly blogposts. By following the steps described above, you should be on your way to towards the top of Google and other search engines. Remember to do your keyword research properly, to form an understanding of the user intent, as well as crafting an article that matches the needs of this intent!
